If your hot water is poor when two taps run at once, a like-for-like combi swap will not fix that, the new one will behave the same way. If the boiler sits in a bedroom cupboard or somewhere awkward, replacement day is by far the cheapest time to move it, since doing it later means paying for the same pipework twice. And if you've got a back boiler or a system that's had bits bolted on over decades, a proper reconfiguration usually delivers more than a new appliance on a compromised system would.
