Boiler Installation in Glasgow

Putting a boiler somewhere there wasn't one, or changing the type of system entirely, is a different job from swapping like for like. It needs the heat load worked out from the property rather than copied off the old unit. Mo and David survey it properly first, then give you a fixed price before anything comes out.

What Happens When You Call

1

Survey before anything is quoted

We come out and look at the property, the radiators, the hot water demand and where a flue can safely go. Ten minutes of measuring beats a phone estimate that changes once someone is standing in your kitchen.

2

Fixed price and an honest recommendation

You get the price in writing along with which boiler we would fit and why. If a cheaper model does the job for your property we will say so rather than quoting up.

3

The install itself

Old unit out where there is one, new gas, water and flue runs where needed, system flushed, magnetic filter fitted. We keep the water on where we can and tell you upfront on the days you will be without heating.

4

Commission, notify, hand over

Gas Safe commissioning and tightness checks on the new gas boiler, building control notified, manufacturer warranty registered, Benchmark logbook completed, then the controls set up with you before we leave.

First-Time Installs and System Changes in Glasgow Properties

Glasgow tenement flats are where most of the genuinely first-time installs happen, usually a property coming off a back boiler behind the fireplace or off an old shared arrangement onto its own combi. These are the jobs where the survey matters most, because the decision is not which boiler but whether the flue can terminate safely and whether the gas supply into the flat can carry the load. Both are answerable on a visit and neither is answerable over the phone.

Conversions and extensions across the West End and the Southside throw up the other common case, a property that has grown and now needs either its own system or a bigger one. Adding two rooms to a house running a boiler sized for the original footprint is how people end up with heating that never quite gets there in January. The heat-loss calculation is the whole job here, and it is the step most likely to be skipped by whoever quotes cheapest.

Post-war semis and estate housing further out towards Knightswood, Drumchapel, Cumbernauld and East Kilbride are usually a system change rather than a first install, coming off a conventional setup with a loft tank onto a combi or a system boiler. The pipework in these properties is often original, so part of the survey is deciding honestly how much of it should be reused and how much is a false economy to keep.

New-build flats and recent conversions around the city centre, Finnieston and Tradeston are the straightforward end, generally already plumbed for a combi in a sensible position with a short flue run. These jobs are mostly about picking the right size and getting the controls set up properly, and they are the ones where a day is a realistic timescale rather than an optimistic one.

Who You'll Get

Mo and David handle boiler installations between them, David as a dedicated heating engineer and Gas Safe registered in his own right. Mo has been fitting boilers across Glasgow since 1999, which mostly shows up as knowing what is behind the wall before it comes off, particularly in tenement flats where the last install was done to whatever was convenient at the time rather than to any plan. The habit that saves customers money on this kind of job is sizing from the property rather than from the old unit, because a boiler chosen to match whatever was there before inherits that installer's guess along with it.

What Else Often Comes Up

An installation is the moment several other jobs become much cheaper, because the system is already drained and the engineer is already there. Radiators that never balanced properly, a cylinder on its last legs, a thermostat still wired where it made sense twenty years ago, all of it is easier now than as a separate visit later. Sludge is the one worth raising unprompted: putting a new boiler onto an unflushed system is the most common reason a manufacturer refuses a warranty claim, which is why the flush and the magnetic filter are standard here rather than an upsell. And if the survey turns up anything on the existing gas supply, that gets dealt with as Gas Safe work in its own right rather than worked around.

Pricing, In Plain Terms

New boilers start from £699 including VAT, supplied and fitted, and your final price is confirmed on the call or the visit. We survey first and give you a fixed price before any work starts. That price is what goes on the invoice. What genuinely moves the number on an installation is not the boiler brand as much as the pipework: a property already plumbed for a combi in the right spot is at the cheap end, while a first-time install, a system-type change or a boiler relocation means new gas, water and flue runs and sits higher. Flue routing is the other one worth knowing about, because a flat where the flue has to travel a long way to a safe termination point is more work than one where it goes straight out the wall behind the unit. We will show you where the cost sits on your specific property at survey rather than after.

Combi, System or Conventional?

For most Glasgow flats and smaller houses a combi is the right answer, no tank, no cylinder, hot water on demand and it frees up a cupboard. Where it stops being obvious is a property with two bathrooms and a few people trying to use them at once, because a combi heats water as it flows and running two showers will show that up. That is where a system boiler with a cylinder earns its place, keeping decent pressure at more than one outlet. Conventional setups with a tank in the loft are mostly on the way out, but they are still the sensible choice in some older properties on low mains pressure, where a combi would struggle no matter which one you fitted. The honest position is that the property decides this more than preference does, and a survey answers it in about ten minutes.

Boiler Installation Questions

Replacement is where an existing boiler comes out and a new one goes in, which is the majority of jobs. Installation is the rest: a property getting a boiler where there wasn't one, a conversion or extension needing its own system, or a change of system type such as coming off a back boiler onto a combi. Same team either way, but the survey and the pipework are a bigger part of the job here.

Communication was excellent from my 1st contact with Moe to the completion of the work. This included follow-up messages…

Our radiator pipe was bent and leaking. They answered straight away… Guy was here an hour later and he was wearing ID, very professional, patient and kind. We just got a new carpet in this room and he done an amazing job on getting little to no water on it. Couldn't recommend enough, price was reasonable.

We lost heating just in time for the coldest day of the year with a baby in the house… When I contacted them they were ready to dispatch that night. Fixed by the afternoon. Quoted that morning and no extra charges were added. Honestly cannot thank them enough.

As a small business owner, I needed a drainage company that could respond quickly. The team attended first thing in the morning, cleared the blocked drain and carried out a full CCTV survey. All documentation emailed across promptly. Professional, efficient and great value for money.
