If a drain survey on an East Kilbride house built between the 1950s and the 1970s comes back saying pitch fibre, it is describing what the pipe is made of, and that changes which drain repairs will actually hold. Pitch fibre was a cheaper, lighter pipe laid across the UK in those years. It does not crack like clay. It softens, blisters on the inside and slowly squashes out of round under the weight of the ground. A drain repair that treats it like clay can leave you paying twice, so the material is identified on the camera before anything is quoted.

In short: Drain repairs in East Kilbride G74 and G75, including pitch fibre pipes that have lost their shape. Camera first, then line or replace.

East Kilbride's neighbourhoods were built fast in the decades when pitch fibre was in use, so it is one of the pipes a camera can find under its gardens.
East Kilbride was Scotland's first new town, designated in 1947, and most of its housing went up over the following three decades in planned neighbourhoods such as The Murray, East Mains, Westwood, Calderwood, Greenhills and St Leonards. Later private estates filled the edges from the 1980s on. Each neighbourhood was built quickly and to one specification, so the houses on a street usually share their construction and were drained the same way at the same time.
Clay was the usual drain pipe of that period, and pitch fibre the cheaper alternative used from roughly the 1950s to the 1970s, before plastic replaced both. So under a garden of East Kilbride's age any of the three can turn up, sometimes all three on one run where sections have been replaced since. The difference matters for the repair. Clay fails by cracking and opening at its joints. Pitch fibre fails by losing its shape and its inside surface, which is a different fault with a different fix.
A drain that has stopped completely and is backing up into the house needs clearing now and repairing after. Call 07988 591331.
Boiler and heating faults go to the heating side of the team on the same number.
Paul and Kyle survey, clear and repair, working out what the pipe is made of before deciding how to fix it.
A boiler condensate pipe that runs into a damaged drain is rerouted at the same time if it needs to be.
Pitch fibre is a layered tube of wood fibre soaked in tar pitch. Over decades under the weight of the ground it can sag from round towards oval, narrowing the pipe and catching paper and waste where nothing used to stop.
The layers can lift and bubble on the inside surface, sometimes along a whole length. Each blister is a ledge for solids to build on, and repeated blockages in a pipe with no roots and no cracks often turn out to be this.
Pitch fibre was joined with tapered push-on couplings, and where a later repair or a new connection joined it to clay or plastic, that change of material is often the weak point. The camera shows whether the joint is still in line.
Paul, who leads the drainage team, runs the camera before anybody quotes, because on a pitch fibre run the measurement that matters is how far out of round the pipe has gone and over what length, and that only shows on the footage. A pipe still close to round can usually be brought back with a shaping tool and then lined. One that has flattened badly, or has lost most of its inside layers, cannot be lined honestly, and Paul will say so rather than sell a liner that will not take. You keep the footage either way.
Line it if the camera shows the pipe is still roughly round along the damaged length, or can be brought back to round, and the fault is blistering or a few soft sections rather than a collapse. The liner then becomes the pipe and the garden stays where it is. Replace it in plastic if the pipe has flattened too far for a shaping tool to recover, if long sections have delaminated down to almost nothing, or if the run has also sunk so that water stands in it, because a liner keeps whatever shape it is given. Where only one or two lengths are bad, a short dig to swap those for plastic, with the sound remainder lined or left alone, is often the cheapest honest answer.

“Our radiator pipe was bent and leaking. They answered straight away… Guy was here an hour later and he was wearing ID, very professional, patient and kind. We just got a new carpet in this room and he done an amazing job on getting little to no water on it. Couldn't recommend enough, price was reasonable.”

“We lost heating just in time for the coldest day of the year with a baby in the house… When I contacted them they were ready to dispatch that night. Fixed by the afternoon. Quoted that morning and no extra charges were added. Honestly cannot thank them enough.”

“As a small business owner, I needed a drainage company that could respond quickly. The team attended first thing in the morning, cleared the blocked drain and carried out a full CCTV survey. All documentation emailed across promptly. Professional, efficient and great value for money.”
