Installing Heating in Glasgow Properties
Tenement flats present the most constrained installs in the city. Solid stone walls, no loft to run pipes through, restricted flue routing options and often a factor to notify before anything touches a common area. Pipe routing in these properties is genuinely a design problem rather than a formality, and it's the main reason a tenement install costs more than an equivalent-sized house.
Post-war semis and estate housing across Knightswood, Drumchapel, Cumbernauld and East Kilbride are the most straightforward full installs we do. Suspended timber floors, accessible lofts and predictable layouts mean pipework routes are simple and the heat loss calculation is rarely complicated by unusual construction.

Doing the sums properly at the survey is unglamorous and it's the difference between a system that works and one that gets complained about for fifteen years.
What Else Often Comes Up
A full heating install is the moment to settle things that are otherwise awkward to reach. Old lead or heavily corroded supply pipework, an undersized incoming main that limits flow to a new combi, and the absence of any system filter are all far cheaper to deal with while the property is already open than as separate jobs later. If the property is being rewired or replastered at the same time, coordinating that sequencing properly saves real money and mess, and we'll happily talk to whoever else is on site rather than working around them. Where a survey shows the existing radiators are actually adequately sized and sound, we'll say so, reusing sound radiators on a new system is legitimate and we'd rather tell you than quietly quote for a full set.
Pricing, In Plain Terms
You get a fixed quote after a proper survey, and that figure is what appears on the invoice. What genuinely drives the cost on a full install is the property rather than the boiler, radiator count, how far pipework has to travel, and above all how accessible the routes are. A suspended timber floor is straightforward, a solid concrete ground floor means running pipes another way entirely and that shows up in the price. Zoning, smart controls and radiator style are all genuine choices with real costs attached, so we quote them as options rather than bundling them in and presenting one number you can't interrogate.
Full New System, Or Work With What's There?
If the property has no heating at all, or is a conversion, the decision is made for you. Where it gets genuinely arguable is a property with an old but functioning system. The case for a full replacement is strong when the pipework is original and heavily corroded, when the system has been extended piecemeal so many times that nothing balances, or when you're renovating anyway and the floors are already up, doing it then costs a fraction of doing it later. The case for keeping the existing system and just replacing the boiler is strong when the pipework is sound and the radiators are adequately sized, which is more often than people assume. The honest test is whether your current system heats every room properly when it's working, if it does, you probably need a boiler rather than a whole system.
