Where Electric Boilers Actually Make Sense in Glasgow
City centre and Merchant City flats are the most common case, particularly upper-floor conversions in buildings where gas was never run to every unit, or where it was capped off decades ago. In a lot of these there is no practical route for a gas flue to terminate safely either, which settles the question before running cost even comes into it.
Converted warehouses and newer riverside developments around Tradeston and Finnieston are the second group. Many were designed all-electric from the outset, so there is no gas infrastructure in the building to connect to, and the electrical supply was specified with that in mind, which usually makes these the most straightforward installs we do.
Tenement flats elsewhere in the city are more mixed. Some have gas to every flat, some have it only to the lower floors, and occasionally a flat has been isolated from a supply that still serves its neighbours. Worth checking properly rather than assuming from the building, because reconnecting an existing supply is sometimes cheaper than going electric.
Rural and edge-of-coverage properties out past the city are the classic off-grid case, where there is no mains gas in the area at all. Here the real comparison is usually against oil or LPG rather than mains gas, which changes the running-cost maths considerably and often in electric's favour once you account for deliveries and tank maintenance.
Who You'll Get

It is the same principle Mo has worked to since 1999: do the parts you are genuinely qualified for properly, be straight about the rest, and coordinate it so the customer is not left managing two trades who have never spoken to each other.
What Else Often Comes Up
Two things come up often enough on these jobs to be worth raising early. The first is the incoming supply, which is the single most common reason an electric boiler plan changes shape, and it is much better discovered at survey than after an order. The second is insulation, because running cost on electric is far more sensitive to heat loss than it is on gas. If a flat has single glazing or an uninsulated solid wall, spending some of the budget on that before upsizing the boiler is usually the better call, and we will say so. Where the property has other gas appliances still connected, those remain Gas Safe work and their certification is unaffected by the boiler changing fuel.
Pricing, In Plain Terms
We survey first and give you a fixed price before anything starts. That price is what goes on the invoice. The boiler itself is rarely the variable here. What moves the cost is the electrical supply, because a property already able to carry the load is a straightforward install, while one needing a dedicated circuit, a consumer unit change or a supply upgrade from the network operator carries real extra cost and, in the last case, real extra time. The wet side is priced much like any boiler install, with the flush and inhibitor included as standard rather than added later. Electric or Gas? Answer the Supply Question First.
This one is simpler than most and it is worth being blunt about. If the property has a working gas supply, fit a gas boiler. Electricity runs at roughly three to four times the unit cost of gas, and no amount of efficiency at the appliance closes a gap that size on a normal heating bill. Electric becomes the right answer, and a genuinely good one, in three situations: there is no gas supply to the building and getting one connected is impractical or expensive, the flat has nowhere a gas flue could safely terminate, or the property is small enough and well-insulated enough that the total heating demand is low regardless of the unit price. If you are in one of those, an electric boiler is quiet, compact, needs no flue and tends to be more reliable. If you are not, we will point you at the gas boiler installation page instead.

Usually not, and we would rather say so before you spend the money. Electricity costs roughly three to four times more per unit than gas, so on a property with a working gas supply a gas boiler will almost always be cheaper to run year after year. Electric earns its place where gas genuinely is not available, not as a general upgrade over a gas boiler that works.
