Lanark is one of Scotland's oldest royal burghs, and its town centre still reflects that history, older stone townhouses and terraces built up over several centuries rather than in a single development period. Close by is New Lanark, the historic mill village, and while that's a heritage site rather than everyday housing stock, it says something about how long people have been building and altering properties in this part of Lanarkshire.
