Exterior paint in Glasgow fails from the wall out, not from the surface in. Damp getting behind a coating lifts it no matter how good the paint was or how many coats went on. Our painters prep back to something sound first, and if we find the wall is wet for a reason, we would rather tell you than paint over it and be back in eighteen months.
Tell us what's up, we usually get back within the hour with a clear price.
Before quoting. Blistering and peeling are symptoms of water, not of cheap paint, and painting over the symptom is the most common way these jobs get done twice.
Scraped, sanded, failed coatings removed, render made good and bare surfaces primed. This is most of the labour and most of whether the finish lasts.
Two coats minimum in the right system for each surface, applied when the surface is genuinely dry and warm enough rather than when the diary suits.
Scaffold away, ground sheets up, nothing left in the garden or the close.
Here's what exterior paintingfrom Mo's team includes.
Every exterior job, fixed price after a look at the property, workmanship guaranteed for 12 months.
Glasgow gets rain on roughly half the days of the year and a lot of wind-driven rain from the west, which is why exterior coatings here fail sooner than the tin suggests and why west-facing elevations always go first. Any schedule that ignores that is optimistic, so we work to weather windows rather than fixed dates and we will move a job rather than paint onto a damp surface.
Sandstone tenements are the specific case where painting decisions matter most, because painting sandstone that was never meant to be painted traps moisture in the stone and causes real long-term damage. Where a tenement has previously been coated the conversation is about maintaining that properly. Where it has not, we will usually advise against starting, and that is a genuine recommendation rather than a reluctance to take the work. Shared elevations also frequently need the factor involved before anything begins.
Post-war semis and estate housing across Knightswood, Drumchapel, Cumbernauld and East Kilbride are mostly render, pebbledash or roughcast, and these are the most straightforward exteriors we paint. The thing worth checking on them is the state of the render itself, since blown or hollow sections need making good before any coating goes on or they will take the new paint off with them.
Newer housing and conversions tend to have less painted exterior overall, often just woodwork, fascias and a door. These are small jobs where the sensible approach is to do them on a genuinely dry spell rather than treat them as urgent, and where the honest advice is often that they can wait until spring.
Painting is delivered by our painters, and the plumbing, heating, gas and drainage side is Mo, David, Paul and Kyle. What makes booking exterior work here worth it is the overlap rather than the painting alone. A large share of failed exterior paintwork in Glasgow traces back to water, a split downpipe, a blocked gully, a gutter running behind a wall, and that is our own trade. Booked as separate contractors, the painter paints and the cause stays. Booked here, the cause gets fixed and the wall gets painted once.
Exterior paintwork is a symptom more often than it is a problem, so it is worth mentioning anything else you have noticed. Damp on an internal wall backing onto the elevation being painted usually means the water is already through and the coating is not the fix. Gutters overflowing in heavy rain, or a downpipe that has come apart at a joint, will saturate the wall below and take new paint off within a couple of winters. Blocked gullies at the base of a wall do the same from the ground up. All three are our own trade, so they get looked at and priced honestly alongside the painting rather than left as somebody else's problem.
We look at the property and give you a fixed price before starting, and that price is what goes on the invoice. The paint is rarely what drives the number. Prep is, and it is the part quotes differ on most, so ours sets out what prep is included rather than leaving it vague. A sound exterior needing a wash and two coats is straightforward. One with failed coatings to burn off, bare or blown render to make good, or rotten sections of woodwork to replace is substantially more work and we will show you why on the walls themselves. Access is the other real cost, since scaffold or towers on a tenement or a three-storey property is a genuine line item and we price it separately rather than burying it.
If the existing paintwork is simply faded, chalky or tired, repainting is exactly the right call and it will hold for years. If it is blistering, peeling in sheets, or failing in one particular patch while the rest looks fine, painting over it is money you will spend twice. Failure in a patch almost always means water is reaching the wall there, and in Glasgow the usual suspects are a split or blocked downpipe, a cracked render section, a failed sill, or ground levels sitting above the damp course. Those are cheaper to fix than a full repaint and they have to come first regardless. We would rather spend twenty minutes finding the source and quote you the smaller combined job than take the painting money and watch it fail. If it turns out the cause is drainage, that is our own trade and it gets fixed properly rather than pointed at.

“Our radiator pipe was bent and leaking. They answered straight away… Guy was here an hour later and he was wearing ID, very professional, patient and kind. We just got a new carpet in this room and he done an amazing job on getting little to no water on it. Couldn't recommend enough, price was reasonable.”

“We lost heating just in time for the coldest day of the year with a baby in the house… When I contacted them they were ready to dispatch that night. Fixed by the afternoon. Quoted that morning and no extra charges were added. Honestly cannot thank them enough.”
