A house in Carluke can be perfectly comfortable from October to Christmas and then, in the first proper cold spell, never quite get warm, with the boiler running flat out and the living room stuck a few degrees short all evening. Nothing has broken. The radiators in each room can only put out so much heat, and on the coldest days, up on the high ground above the Clyde valley with the wind coming across open fields, some rooms need more than their radiator can give. Heating engineers can work out which rooms are short and why, and it is rarely the boiler.
Tell us what's up, we usually get back within the hour with a clear price.
In short: Heating engineer in Carluke ML8 for houses warm all autumn that cannot hold their heat in a hard frost. Radiators checked room by room.
Covering Carluke ML8. Monday to Saturday 8am to 6pm. Call Mo on 07988 591331.
Carluke sits on high ground above the Clyde valley, so its coldest days are a little colder and windier than Glasgow's, and that is when a heating system shows what it was sized for.
Carluke is an old market town on the plateau above the Clyde valley, between Lanark and Wishaw. The centre has stone cottages and terraces, there is council housing from after the war, and a lot of newer estates have gone up round the edges for people who use the station on the main line. Being higher than the city makes the town a degree or so colder on average, snow lies longer, and the wind has open ground to cross before it reaches the gables.
A radiator is chosen to keep its room warm at a set outdoor temperature, the coldest weather the house is expected to see, and below that figure the room starts to fall behind. If the radiators were picked by eye, or sized on a figure meant for somewhere milder and lower down, the system has less in hand than it needs here. A modern boiler running cooler water for efficiency trims the output of every radiator further, which is fine on a mild day and is exactly what shows up on a still January night well below freezing.
If the heating has stopped altogether in a frost, rather than falling short, call 07988 591331 and tell us what the boiler display shows.
Repairs to all the common makes by Gas Safe registered engineers, and setting the boiler's heating temperature correctly afterwards.
Drainage is a separate team on the same number.
Room by room heat loss checks, radiator upsizing, outdoor sensors and setting up how the boiler responds to the weather.
If the house is fine most of the winter and only falls behind in hard frosts, the system works and is running out of capacity on the coldest days. The rooms that fall behind first are the ones whose radiators are smallest for their size.
Turning a boiler's heating temperature down saves gas, and on most days the house never notices. In a cold snap the radiators need hotter water to keep up, and a boiler with no outdoor sensor has no way of knowing it should send it. The house then loses ground all evening.
A room with two outside walls, one of them a gable taking the wind, loses heat far faster than a room in the middle of the house. In Carluke it is often the one bedroom nobody can keep warm, with a radiator the same size as the room next door.
David checks a house like this on a cold day if he can. He measures each room against the temperature it is meant to reach, notes what the boiler is sending out and whether it is already at full output, and works out the heat each room loses through its walls, windows and roof. Set against the output of the radiator in it, that shows which rooms are short and by how much. Where the answer is an outdoor sensor rather than bigger radiators, Mo sets up how far the boiler raises its temperature as the weather turns.
We give you a clear price before any work starts. That price is what goes on the invoice. Resetting the boiler's heating temperature or fitting an outdoor sensor is a small job. A bigger radiator is priced per room, once the heat loss check has shown that room needs one, so you only pay for the rooms that are short. We will not price a new boiler unless the figures show the boiler is the limit, and in a house like this they rarely do.

“Our radiator pipe was bent and leaking. They answered straight away… Guy was here an hour later and he was wearing ID, very professional, patient and kind. We just got a new carpet in this room and he done an amazing job on getting little to no water on it. Couldn't recommend enough, price was reasonable.”

“We lost heating just in time for the coldest day of the year with a baby in the house… When I contacted them they were ready to dispatch that night. Fixed by the afternoon. Quoted that morning and no extra charges were added. Honestly cannot thank them enough.”

“As a small business owner, I needed a drainage company that could respond quickly. The team attended first thing in the morning, cleared the blocked drain and carried out a full CCTV survey. All documentation emailed across promptly. Professional, efficient and great value for money.”
