Turning the heating off completely while you are away is the obvious way to save money and it is how a fair number of Airdrie boilers get into trouble. A modern appliance has frost protection built into it, which fires the boiler if things get cold enough, and switching everything off at the wall is the one thing that stops it working.
Tell us what's up, we usually get back within the hour with a clear price.
Airdrie sits high and gets colder than the city, so a property left with the heating switched off entirely is more exposed here than most of our coverage.
Airdrie sits east of Coatbridge on higher ground than most of the places we cover, which shows in the weather. Frost arrives earlier and sits longer than it does closer to the Clyde. The housing is a mix of older terraced and tenement property around the centre, substantial post-war estate development, and newer private building on the edges.
Almost every boiler fitted in the last twenty years has a frost protection function. It watches the temperature inside the appliance and fires it briefly if things drop far enough to be a risk, regardless of what the programmer says. It is one of the genuinely useful things a modern boiler does and it costs very little to run.
It only works if the boiler has power and gas. Switching the heating off at the programmer usually leaves the frost function active. Switching the appliance off at the fused spur, or turning off at the isolator before going away, does not, and that is the version that catches people out. Mo covers Airdrie and is Gas Safe registered, and it is worth being shown the difference before winter rather than after.
Airdrie is a standing part of the Lanarkshire run, so a booked boiler repair here generally gets a date within a few days with a day and a window rather than an open morning. If you are ringing before going away rather than after something has gone wrong, say so, because a visit to set the property up properly for a cold spell is a different and shorter job than a repair.
No heat at all and it will not keep is the emergency boiler repair side, same number. This page is booked work.
Booked boiler repairs across Airdrie and the surrounding ML6 streets. Manufacturer certified for Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Baxi, Ideal and Vokera.
Drainage is Paul and Kyle on the same number.
Radiators, pumps, valves, controls and insulating runs that cross cold spaces.
The most common version. The heating goes off, the boiler goes off, and the frost protection goes off with it, at exactly the point when nobody is there to notice anything. A week away in January is where this shows up.
Many programmers and controls have a holiday or frost mode that keeps the property above a minimum without heating it properly. It is usually in the manual nobody kept, and it is the correct answer rather than switching everything off.
Higher and more exposed ground means the condensate run freezes earlier in the season here than it does lower down. Where the run is external and uninsulated, that is an annual lockout waiting to happen.
Separate from the boiler and worth mentioning in the same breath. Where a property will be empty through a cold spell, what happens to the water supply matters as much as what happens to the heating.
Airdrie is priced the same as everywhere else we cover. You get a clear price before any work starts and that price is what goes on the invoice. Setting up frost protection and insulating an exposed run is at the cheap end and is far better done in October than in January. If a second fault appears once the case is off, we stop and tell you before going further.

“Our radiator pipe was bent and leaking. They answered straight away… Guy was here an hour later and he was wearing ID, very professional, patient and kind. We just got a new carpet in this room and he done an amazing job on getting little to no water on it. Couldn't recommend enough, price was reasonable.”

“We lost heating just in time for the coldest day of the year with a baby in the house… When I contacted them they were ready to dispatch that night. Fixed by the afternoon. Quoted that morning and no extra charges were added. Honestly cannot thank them enough.”

“As a small business owner, I needed a drainage company that could respond quickly. The team attended first thing in the morning, cleared the blocked drain and carried out a full CCTV survey. All documentation emailed across promptly. Professional, efficient and great value for money.”
