Who You'll Get
The electrical work and its certification are carried out by our qualified electricians. What we manage is everything around it, the heat-loss sum, the subfloor, the sensor placement and the sequencing with whoever is laying your floor. That last part is the bit people underestimate. Booked as separate trades, an underfloor heating job is where a tiler and an electrician most reliably end up waiting on each other, and the customer is the one making the phone calls. One number avoids that.
What Else Often Comes Up
Underfloor heating in a bathroom usually arrives as part of a bigger refit, and there are two things worth raising while the floor is up. Ventilation is the first, because a warm floor dries the room faster and makes an underpowered extractor fan much more obvious, so it is worth sorting both at once rather than coming back. The second is the subfloor itself, since a floor that flexes will crack tile adhesive regardless of what is underneath it, and that is far cheaper to address before the mats go down than after. Where the room is becoming a wet room, the tanking and the heating have to be sequenced together, which is another reason to have one company holding the order of work.
Pricing, In Plain Terms
You get a clear price before anything starts and that price is what goes on the invoice. Cost tracks floor area and subfloor more than anything else. A small bathroom over a sound, level subfloor is the straightforward end. A kitchen needing insulation board, or a floor that has to be levelled before mats can go down, is more work and we will show you why at survey. The thermostat is a genuine choice worth making deliberately rather than defaulting to the cheapest, since a programmable one on a bathroom floor pays for itself in avoided running hours.
Electric Mats or a Wet System?
The room size decides this and it is not a close call in either direction. For a bathroom, en-suite or small kitchen, electric mats are the right answer: cheap to install, no pipework, no connection to your boiler, and the running cost is trivial because the area is small and the on-time is short. For a whole floor, an extension, or anywhere you are heating a large area for hours a day, a wet system running off the boiler is substantially cheaper to run and the installation cost is recovered over a few winters. The mistake we see is electric mats specified across a big open-plan floor because the install quote looked better, then barely used because the bills are eye-watering. In a bathroom, no, because the area is small and it is usually on for an hour or two a day. Across a whole house, yes, noticeably, and that is where a wet system running off your boiler makes far more sense. We would rather point you at the right system than sell you electric mats for a floor area they were never meant to heat.
