There is a lot of advice about heating costs and a good share of it is worth very little. Some things genuinely change what a system uses and some are sold hard and change almost nothing. We would rather tell you which is which than sell you the second kind, partly because it is the right answer and partly because you would find out anyway.
Tell us what's up, we usually get back within the hour with a clear price.
Drumchapel is ex-council estates and modern flats, a lot of them heating families on systems that were specified a long time ago.
There is more advice about heating costs than there is good advice, and a fair amount of it is being sold rather than given. The things that genuinely change what a system uses are mostly dull and cheap: controls that work, radiator valves that actually close, a system that circulates properly, and keeping the heat you have already paid for. None of those make an impressive sales conversation, which is roughly why they get skipped in favour of things that do.
Plumbers are in a reasonable position to be honest about this because the honest answer is usually the smaller job. Freeing seized radiator valves so unused rooms stop being heated to living-room temperature is a short visit with a real effect. Replacing a working boiler on efficiency figures alone rarely pays back as fast as the pitch suggests. We would rather say that and be believed the next time. Mo, Muhammad and David are all Gas Safe registered and cover the heating side.
Drumchapel is close in and we are through it regularly, so booked work usually gets a choice of days rather than a single offer.
Out of hours Matt takes the callouts. If the heating has stopped entirely rather than being expensive, that is a different call and worth making straight away. Call 07988 591331.
Gas and heating is Mo, Muhammad or David, all Gas Safe registered. We will tell you plainly where a boiler is genuinely past it and where it has years left.
Paul leads the drain team and Kyle runs the jetting, across the estates and flats here.
Controls, radiator valves and system cleaning, which between them account for most of what can honestly be improved.
With one thermostat and no working radiator valves, every room runs whenever any room needs to, which is the most expensive way to be comfortable.
Thermostatic heads seize open after years untouched, so the rooms that should throttle back never do. Freeing or replacing one is a small job with a real effect.
Where circulation is poor the boiler runs longer to reach the same temperature. That shows up on a bill rather than as an obvious fault.
It does not. The house heats at the same rate either way and simply overshoots at the end, which is a common and genuinely costly misunderstanding.
A family here were quoted a new boiler on the strength of what they were spending to stay warm. The boiler was fine. Every thermostatic valve in the house had seized open years earlier, so four bedrooms nobody used were being heated to the same temperature as the living room every evening. Freeing and replacing the valves took a morning and cost a small fraction of the quote they had been given.
We give you a clear price before any work starts and that price is what goes on the invoice. Where the useful work is a morning on your radiator valves rather than a new boiler, that is what we will quote for, even though it is the smaller job.
The things that make a real difference are mostly unglamorous. Controls that work: a thermostat in a sensible room and radiator valves that actually close, so rooms nobody is using are not being heated to the same temperature as the living room. Running the system longer at a lower setting rather than in short hot blasts, which suits most housing and nearly all older construction. A system that circulates properly, because sludge makes a boiler run longer for the same result. And keeping the heat you have paid for, which is insulation and draughts rather than anything a plumber fits. What makes less difference than people are told: turning the thermostat higher to warm up faster, which does not work, and it overshoots at the end. Replacing a working boiler purely on efficiency figures, where the payback is usually much longer than the sales conversation suggests. And any single gadget offered as the whole answer. If somebody is confident about the saving before they have looked at your controls or your radiators, be sceptical.

“Our radiator pipe was bent and leaking. They answered straight away… Guy was here an hour later and he was wearing ID, very professional, patient and kind. We just got a new carpet in this room and he done an amazing job on getting little to no water on it. Couldn't recommend enough, price was reasonable.”

“We lost heating just in time for the coldest day of the year with a baby in the house… When I contacted them they were ready to dispatch that night. Fixed by the afternoon. Quoted that morning and no extra charges were added. Honestly cannot thank them enough.”

“As a small business owner, I needed a drainage company that could respond quickly. The team attended first thing in the morning, cleared the blocked drain and carried out a full CCTV survey. All documentation emailed across promptly. Professional, efficient and great value for money.”
