What is worth doing while a floor is already up in our Stewarton house?

Yes, for larger jobs we'll usually come out, have a proper look and measure up, then give you a written quote rather than a phone estimate, so there's no ambiguity before work starts.

It would be if it were presented as necessary, which is why we say plainly that it is not. Nothing on the list fixes a current fault and declining all of it leaves you no worse off this year. What it changes is the cost of the next job on that pipework, which may be five years away or may never come. We would rather set it out that way and let you decide than fold it into a quote as though it were part of the work.

How do we know where our pipes run without lifting the floor?

Mostly you do not, which is exactly why photographing them the one time they are visible is worth so much. Failing that, a run can often be inferred from where it enters and exits a room, and there are detectors that find pipe under a floor with reasonable accuracy. Neither is as good as a photograph taken by somebody standing over the open floor, which costs nothing and takes seconds, and which almost nobody thinks to take.
