Shower Installation in Glasgow

The shower you can have is decided by what is behind the wall, not by what looked good in the showroom. A rainfall head on a gravity-fed tenement system will dribble no matter what it cost. Mo and Kyle check the pressure and the system type first, then tell you honestly which showers will actually work in your property.

What Happens When You Call

1

Measure the pressure and flow

Before recommending anything. This decides which showers are realistic and it is the step most often skipped by whoever quotes fastest.

2

Honest recommendation, fixed price

Which units suit your system and why the others do not, then a price covering the install, the pipework and any making good.

3

Fit, seal and pressure test

Old unit out, pipework run or reused, new shower fitted and sealed properly. Tested at full temperature and pressure before we call it done.

Glasgow Water Pressure, and What It Means for Showers

Tenement flats are where pressure varies most, and where it varies by floor. A ground-floor flat on the mains can run a mixer perfectly well, while a top-floor flat in the same close on a gravity-fed system with a loft tank has barely enough head for a decent flow. The building tells you very little, which is why we measure rather than assume from the postcode.

Properties that have moved to a combi boiler, which is most of the city by now, generally have good mains pressure and the full range of showers available to them. Worth checking the flow rate as well as the pressure though, because a combi that is undersized for the property will struggle to hold temperature when the shower and a tap run together.

Post-war semis and estate housing across Knightswood, Drumchapel, Cumbernauld and East Kilbride often still have a hot water cylinder, and these are the classic candidates for a shower pump. A pump on a gravity system is a well-understood fix and it makes a mixer or even a rainfall head genuinely viable where it would otherwise disappoint.

New-builds and recent conversions usually have unvented cylinders or combis at good pressure, so the constraint there is rarely the water. It is more often the layout, since these bathrooms tend to be compact and the decision becomes what will physically fit rather than what the system will run.

Who You'll Get

Mo and Kyle handle shower installations between them. The habit worth knowing about is that they measure the pressure before recommending a unit rather than after fitting one, which sounds obvious and is skipped often enough that a fair share of our callouts are people unhappy with a shower someone else fitted to a system that was never going to run it properly. Where a job turns out to need an electric shower rather than a mixer, that brings in our qualified electricians for the cable side, and it is still one company and one price rather than two bookings.

What Else Often Comes Up

A shower change surfaces a few things that were already there. The waste and trap are the most common, because a shower used more heavily than the one it replaced will find any existing restriction, so if the tray has been draining slowly it is worth saying at survey rather than after. Where a tray is going onto a timber floor, any flex in the floor will eventually break the seal regardless of how well it was fitted, and that is much cheaper to address while the floor is accessible. And if the shower is going into a room being refitted more broadly, ventilation is worth sorting at the same time, since a new shower used more often puts more moisture into a room than the old one did.

Pricing, In Plain Terms

We measure the pressure, then give you a fixed price before anything starts, and that price is what goes on the invoice. The unit itself is usually your choice and your spend. What we are pricing is the installation, and the two things that move it are the pipework and the making good. A straight swap onto existing feeds at the same position is the cheap end. Moving the shower, concealing the pipework, or running a new waste means opening walls or floors and putting them back, which is where the cost genuinely sits. Where a pump is needed on a gravity system we price that separately and explain why rather than folding it into a single number.

Which Shower Will Actually Work in Your Property?

Ten minutes with a pressure gauge answers this better than any amount of showroom browsing, so it is the first thing we do. Good mains pressure, which most Glasgow combi and unvented properties have, opens up mixers, thermostatic units and rainfall heads, and a mixer will give you the best shower for the least running cost. A gravity-fed system, meaning a cold tank in the loft and a hot cylinder, gives low pressure at the shower, and there the honest options are a pump to make a mixer viable or an electric shower that sidesteps the problem entirely. The mistake worth avoiding is buying the shower first and asking about pressure second, because the unit is the part you cannot return once it is fitted. If it turns out an electric shower is the right answer for your property, we will say so and point you at that page, even though it is usually the smaller job.

Shower Installation Questions

It comes down to your hot water rather than preference. A combi or a decent unvented system with good mains pressure suits a mixer, and you will get a stronger, more consistent shower for less money to run. A gravity-fed system with a tank in the loft, or a flat where hot water is limited, is where an electric shower earns its place because it heats its own water independently. We have a separate page for electric shower installation covering that side.

Communication was excellent from my 1st contact with Moe to the completion of the work. This included follow-up messages…

Our radiator pipe was bent and leaking. They answered straight away… Guy was here an hour later and he was wearing ID, very professional, patient and kind. We just got a new carpet in this room and he done an amazing job on getting little to no water on it. Couldn't recommend enough, price was reasonable.

We lost heating just in time for the coldest day of the year with a baby in the house… When I contacted them they were ready to dispatch that night. Fixed by the afternoon. Quoted that morning and no extra charges were added. Honestly cannot thank them enough.

As a small business owner, I needed a drainage company that could respond quickly. The team attended first thing in the morning, cleared the blocked drain and carried out a full CCTV survey. All documentation emailed across promptly. Professional, efficient and great value for money.
