Our Yoker house had a back boiler years ago, is anything left from it?

Usually yes, and usually harmless. The chimney it vented into is still there behind the sealed-up fireplace, and very often the hot water cylinder and the loft tank were left in place rather than taken out when the combi went in. Under ten years old and otherwise reliable, repair almost always wins. Past fifteen with a string of previous call-outs, we'll say so honestly and talk you through replacement instead.

How quickly can you get to a boiler repair?

Accepted Answer

Most Glasgow bookings get seen within a day or two. If you've lost heat and hot water completely, tell us when you call, that's handled differently to a routine booking.

Which boiler parts do you actually stock, and which need ordering?

The wear parts that account for most breakdowns, pumps, diverter valves, sensors, thermocouples and the common PCBs for Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Baxi, Ideal and Vokèra, ride on the van as standard. Heat exchangers, anything for a discontinued model, and brand-specific electronics on the less common makes usually need ordering, which is why we ask what the boiler is when you call.

That happens on older or less common boilers. We'll order it, give you an honest timeframe, usually the next day or two, and you're not charged for the visit twice.

Do you repair all boiler brands, or just the big names?

Accepted Answer

All major brands and most of the less common ones too. We do boiler repairs on Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Baxi, Ideal and Vokèra week in week out, and if we're not confident we can source parts for something genuinely obscure, we'll tell you upfront rather than waste your time.

Will you tell me honestly if it's not worth fixing?

Accepted Answer

Yes. If a repair's going to cost more than a replacement makes sense for, we'll say so, even though the repair's the easier sale for us.

Do you offer a guarantee on repair work?

Accepted Answer

12 months on parts and labour for anything we fit. If the same fault recurs within that window, we come back and sort it at no extra cost.

I'm a landlord, can you deal directly with my tenant?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we'll arrange access and diagnosis directly with the tenant and keep you updated, then send the invoice and paperwork to you.

Not for us, we repair boilers of any age. It's worth knowing though, since an out-of-warranty repair on an older unit is one of the moments worth asking us honestly about replacement instead, which we'll always raise if it's genuinely the better option.

Can you tell what's wrong just from what I describe on the phone?

Often we can narrow it down enough to bring the likely part, a specific fault code or symptom usually points somewhere. We won't quote a fixed price until we've actually seen it though, that's what the diagnostic visit is for.

Do you do diagnostic-only visits if I just want to know what's wrong?

Yes, if you want the fault identified before deciding whether to fix it yourself, get a second quote, or go ahead with us, we'll diagnose it and give you a clear price for that visit and an honest answer either way.

Is a repair booking different from calling the emergency line?

Accepted Answer

Yes, this page is for boilers with a fault that isn't a total emergency, still got some heat or hot water, or happy to wait a day or two. Completely lost heat and hot water and need someone out urgently, our emergency boiler repair line handles that instead.

Do you register the repair for my boiler's warranty records?

Where the manufacturer requires proof of ongoing servicing and repair history for the warranty to stay valid, we give you a proper written record of what was done and when, so you've got it on file.

What if my boiler's discontinued and parts are hard to find?

Accepted Answer

It happens on older models, and we'll be upfront if a specific part's genuinely difficult to source rather than stringing you along with a vague timeframe. On a discontinued boiler that's already had a couple of repairs, this is usually the point we'll raise replacement as a realistic option.

Should the old cylinder and tank be removed?

Accepted Answer

Not urgently, and quite often the answer is leave them. If they are drained, disconnected and doing nothing, they are simply taking up cupboard and loft space. It becomes worth doing when you want the space back or when a tank still holds water and is sitting on joists that would rather it did not. We will tell you which of the two you have. Is a blocked-off chimney a problem?

It can cause damp in the stack over time if it was sealed completely, because a chimney needs a little airflow to stay dry. That shows up as staining on the chimney breast rather than as a heating fault, and it is a building matter rather than a plumbing one, but it is worth knowing that is what you are looking at rather than a leak. We still have the gas fire, does that need anything?

Yes, and it is easy to overlook once the boiler has moved elsewhere. A gas fire is its own appliance using its own flue and it needs checking in its own right. If you are a landlord it has to be on the annual safety check alongside the boiler. Call 07988 591331.

Does the old layout make the heating less efficient?

Accepted Answer

A little, and rarely enough to justify redoing it. The runs are longer and less direct than a fresh design would be, so there are more losses along the way and the far end of the circuit can be slower.
