The Southside of Glasgow has a particularly varied boiler landscape compared to other parts of the city. The older Victorian tenements in Govanhill and Pollokshields still contain a significant number of back boilers fitted behind gas fires, boilers that have been kept running long past their expected lifespan because the cost and disruption of replacement has been deferred.
