Swap It Where It Is, or Move It While the Wall Is Open?
Four questions settle it, and all four are easier to answer now than after the new one is fitted. First, is the current position actually allowed for a new appliance? Flue terminations have to clear windows, doors and boundaries by set distances, and older installations frequently sit closer than that. If yours does, the choice has been made for you. Second, does the position cost you anything year to year? A boiler behind a cupboard full of coats gets serviced more slowly, and a boiler in a bedroom cupboard is a boiler you hear at six in the morning. Small annoyances, but you are agreeing to another decade of them. Third, is anything else happening to the room? If the kitchen is coming out anyway, the marginal cost of moving the boiler is a fraction of what it would be as a standalone job, and doing them together is far and away the cheapest route. Fourth, where would the condensate go from the new position? It needs a fall to a drain, and that is the thing most likely to rule out an otherwise sensible spot. Answer those four and the decision is usually obvious. If nothing on the list bothers you, swap it where it stands and do not let anybody talk you into more.
