Changing the boiler in a home where someone older is in all day is a different job from changing it in a house that empties at eight in the morning. The boiler is the same. The day is not. Largs has purpose-built retirement flats along and behind the seafront as well as family houses up the hill, and in the flats especially, boiler installations come down to three things nobody asks about at the showroom: how long the heating is off, what gives hot water if the new boiler ever stops, and who is there when it is handed over.
Tell us what's up, we usually get back within the hour with a clear price.
In short: Boiler installation in Largs KA30 by Gas Safe engineers, planned round an older person at home all day and the hot water they rely on.
Covering Largs KA30. Monday to Saturday 8am to 6pm. Call Mo on 07988 591331.
Largs has retirement flats along the front and family homes up the hill, and for a boiler change in the flats the day itself needs as much planning as the boiler.
Largs runs along the shore from the Victorian and Edwardian villas on the front, many of them now divided into flats, through purpose-built retirement developments near the centre, to bungalows and family estates on the slopes behind the town. Fairlie sits along the coast to the south and Skelmorlie to the north. Much of it is gas heated, though not all of it, and the boilers range from originals in the newer flats to ones that have been replaced two or three times in the older houses.
For someone who is at home all day, and particularly someone older living alone, a boiler change lands harder than it does for a household out at work. The house cools from the moment the old boiler is drained down. There is no hot water until the new one is commissioned. Strangers are in and out of the kitchen for most of a day. And at the end of it there is a new set of controls to learn, often replacing a dial that has done the same thing for twenty years.
None of that is a reason to put off a boiler that needs replacing. It is a reason to plan the day, and to think about what the new system takes away as well as what it adds. Plenty of older flats and houses still have a hot water cylinder with an electric immersion heater in it, and for someone at home all day that immersion is the hot water that keeps coming when the boiler does not. A combi does away with the cylinder, and with it the backup.
If the old boiler gives out before the installation date, call 07988 591331 and we can look at keeping it going until then.
Boilers for Largs, Fairlie and Skelmorlie from the makes we are manufacturer certified to install, chosen partly for how easy they are to live with.
The condensate pipe is routed and boxed so it stays out of the way of feet, walking frames and furniture.
Keeping a cylinder and its immersion where that suits the household, or taking them out cleanly where it does not.
A straight swap usually takes most of a working day, and the heating and hot water are off from the moment the old boiler is drained. For a household out at work that goes unnoticed. For someone at home it means a cooling house, so the useful thing is to set up one warm room with a plug-in heater before the work starts, or to book the job for a mild month.
When a cylinder comes out so a combi can go in, the immersion heater goes with it. In a household out at work that matters little. For someone at home who has used the immersion to get through a boiler breakdown, it was the reason a fault could wait a day, and that is worth weighing before the cylinder is taken away.
Some retirement developments are heated by electric heaters or by a shared system in a plant room, so there is no gas boiler in the flat to replace. Others have one per flat, with flues on walls that belong to the building. Checking with the house manager or the lease before booking a survey saves a wasted visit.
The handover is the part David, who is Gas Safe registered, does not rush. Before he leaves he goes through the new controls with whoever lives in the house, sets the heating times to the ones they already keep, shows them where the pressure gauge is and what it should read, and writes those few things on a card left beside the boiler. If a son or daughter wants to be there, or on the phone, he will wait for them. And if something is not clear the next morning, ring and ask.

“Our radiator pipe was bent and leaking. They answered straight away… Guy was here an hour later and he was wearing ID, very professional, patient and kind. We just got a new carpet in this room and he done an amazing job on getting little to no water on it. Couldn't recommend enough, price was reasonable.”

“We lost heating just in time for the coldest day of the year with a baby in the house… When I contacted them they were ready to dispatch that night. Fixed by the afternoon. Quoted that morning and no extra charges were added. Honestly cannot thank them enough.”

“As a small business owner, I needed a drainage company that could respond quickly. The team attended first thing in the morning, cleared the blocked drain and carried out a full CCTV survey. All documentation emailed across promptly. Professional, efficient and great value for money.”
