Boiler Installation in Troon

Fitting a new boiler and setting it up are two different jobs, and the second is where most of the saving is won or lost. A condensing boiler only condenses when the water coming back to it is cool enough. In the villas along Bentinck Drive and South Beach, many of which have had their windows and lofts done since the radiators went in, that comes down almost entirely to the temperature the boiler is told to run at. Done properly, boiler installations in these houses finish at the controls, not at the flue.

About Troon

Troon's bigger houses often have generous radiators and better insulation than they started with, which is the combination that lets a new boiler run cooler.

Troon's housing runs from the Victorian and Edwardian villas between the town centre and the seafront, along Bentinck Drive and South Beach, through the inter-war semis and bungalows behind them, to Barassie in the north and the newer estates on the edges of the town, with flats around the harbour and the centre. A lot of it is large by any standard, with big rooms, bay windows and high ceilings.

The radiators in most of those houses were sized when boilers ran hot and windows were single glazed. Since then many have had double glazing, loft insulation and sometimes cavity fill, so the heat each room loses on a cold day has dropped while the radiator on the wall has stayed the same size. A radiator bigger than its room now needs is not wasted. It means the room can be heated with cooler water.

That matters because a condensing boiler only recovers the extra heat from its exhaust when the water returning to it is below about 55 degrees. Set to send water out at 75 or 80, it rarely gets there and runs much like the boiler it replaced. Set as cool as the house allows, it condenses for most of the winter. The setting is made at the installation, and on a house with big radiators there is more room to bring it down than most people expect.

What We Do in Troon

Emergency Callouts

If the old boiler gives out while you are still deciding, ring 07988 591331 and a repair can be weighed up first.

Boilers

Boilers for Troon, Barassie and Loans, commissioned to suit the radiators in the house instead of the settings they arrived with.

Drains

A boiler that condenses properly makes more condensate, so its pipe to the drain is sized and routed with that in mind.

Heating

Balancing radiators, fitting thermostatic valves and adding controls that turn the boiler down gently.

Common Problems in Troon

A boiler left on its hottest setting

It is easy to hand a new boiler over on a high setting, because nobody ever rings to complain that the radiators are too hot. The house warms quickly and the boiler works, it just spends the winter not condensing. Bringing the setting down in steps, and checking every room keeps up, is part of commissioning it properly.

Radiators that were never balanced

Running cooler shows up every radiator that has been taking more than its share. The ones nearest the boiler heat first and the far rooms lag, which at a high temperature nobody notices. Setting the valve at the end of each radiator so the water is shared properly is slow work, and it is what makes a lower temperature comfortable in every room.

Controls that only know on and off

A basic room thermostat switches the boiler fully on and then fully off, so it runs hot whenever it runs. Controls that talk to the boiler can turn it down as the house nears temperature instead. Where the boiler supports it, that is one of the cheaper ways of keeping it in its efficient range.

A hot water cylinder that needs the heat

Stored hot water should reach about 60 degrees to keep bacteria down, so a system boiler still has to run hot when it heats the cylinder. That is fine, as long as the heating side has its own lower setting. Boilers that use one temperature for both are set up for the cylinder and run the radiators far hotter than they need.

Who You'll Get in Troon

Troon installations are commissioned by David, who is Gas Safe registered and works on whole heating systems, not just the box on the wall. Before he leaves, he sets the heating temperature to what your radiators can manage, balances them, and shows you the setting and what to change if a room falls behind in a cold spell. If your radiators are too small to run cooler, he will tell you that as well, because a boiler set lower than the house can manage just leaves you cold.

Pricing in Troon

A new boiler supplied and fitted from £699 including VAT, with the final price confirmed on the call or the visit. Commissioning and balancing are part of every installation. Where a weather sensor or a different thermostat would help your house, it is listed on its own in the quote so you can decide whether you want it. The free survey is where your actual price comes from.

“Our radiator pipe was bent and leaking. They answered straight away… Guy was here an hour later and he was wearing ID, very professional, patient and kind. We just got a new carpet in this room and he done an amazing job on getting little to no water on it. Couldn't recommend enough, price was reasonable.”

“We lost heating just in time for the coldest day of the year with a baby in the house… When I contacted them they were ready to dispatch that night. Fixed by the afternoon. Quoted that morning and no extra charges were added. Honestly cannot thank them enough.”

Troon Questions

Very likely, especially if the windows and loft have been improved since the radiators went in. At the free survey we measure the rooms and the radiators and work out how low the heating can be set while every room still reaches temperature on a cold day. That figure is what the boiler is set to at the installation, and we show you how to adjust it. Call 07988 591331.
