A lot of the boilers we look at in Largs are working perfectly and running far hotter than they need to. It is not a fault and nothing is broken, but it does mean the appliance never operates the way it was designed to, and on a house that is heated most of the day that shows up on the bill rather than as a breakdown.
Tell us what's up, we usually get back within the hour with a clear price.
Largs has a high proportion of homes heated through the whole day rather than in two bursts, which makes how the boiler is set up matter more here than it does elsewhere.
Largs is a coastal town on the Firth of Clyde with a long seafront, Victorian and Edwardian property behind it, a good deal of flatted accommodation both purpose built and converted, and family housing spreading back and up the hill. It has an older population than most towns its size and a lot of households where somebody is home during the day.
That last point changes what matters about a heating system. A house heated in two short bursts around work is a different proposition from one held at temperature from morning to evening. In the second case the boiler spends most of its time at part load, and how it is set up determines whether that is efficient or wasteful.
Almost every boiler fitted in the last fifteen years is a condensing boiler, which means it can recover extra heat from its own exhaust gases, but only when the water coming back to it is cool enough. Most are left on a flow temperature well above the point where that happens, usually because that is where the installer left the dial and nobody has touched it since. Muhammad and David both cover the coast round and it is worth mentioning on a booked visit, because it costs nothing to adjust and it is the single easiest saving in the house.
Largs sits on the coast round with the Ayrshire towns, so a booked boiler repair here usually gets a date within the week with a day and a window rather than an open morning. If someone in the property needs the heating on reliably, or there is an access arrangement to make, say so when you ring and we will work round it rather than turning up and finding out.
No heat at all and it will not keep is the emergency boiler repair side, same number. This page is booked work, and everything on it is booked work by nature.

Drainage is Paul and Kyle on the same number.
Controls, flow temperature, balancing, pumps and valves, which between them decide how a healthy boiler actually performs.
Most boilers leave the factory set high and most are never changed. On a condensing boiler that means it almost never condenses, so a chunk of the efficiency the appliance was bought for is simply not being used. It is a dial, not a repair.
Very hot radiators are not the same as a warm house. A system running flat out heats the air near the radiator quickly and the room unevenly, then the thermostat satisfies and everything cools. Lower and longer is usually more comfortable as well as cheaper.
Timer settings inherited from a working household do not suit a home that is lived in through the day. Heating that comes on hard twice and off in between costs more and feels worse than a lower steady setting for the same hours.
Where the appliance is larger than the house needs at the temperature it is set to, it satisfies almost immediately and shuts down, then repeats. That wears the ignition and the fan and it is often a settings problem rather than a sizing one.
Worth understanding rather than just being given a number, because the right answer depends on your house. The flow temperature is how hot the boiler heats the water it sends to the radiators, and it is set on the boiler itself rather than on the room thermostat. Two separate dials, two separate jobs: the room thermostat decides when to stop, the flow temperature decides how hard to push. A condensing boiler only achieves its advertised efficiency when the water returning to it is below about fifty five degrees, because that is when moisture condenses out of the flue gases and gives up its heat. Run the flow at seventy five or eighty, which is where a great many are left, and the return is far too warm for that to happen, so the appliance runs as an ordinary boiler and the efficiency you paid for goes out the flue. Turning the flow down to around sixty, sometimes lower, lets it condense for much more of the time. The trade-off is that radiators run cooler, so the house takes longer to come up to temperature, which is why this suits a home heated for long steady periods far better than one heated in two short bursts. If the house feels cold after the change, the answer is usually longer hours rather than a higher setting, and occasionally a radiator or two that were undersized all along and were being masked by very hot water. We will set it and tell you what to watch for, and if it does not suit the way you live we will put it back.

“Our radiator pipe was bent and leaking. They answered straight away… Guy was here an hour later and he was wearing ID, very professional, patient and kind. We just got a new carpet in this room and he done an amazing job on getting little to no water on it. Couldn't recommend enough, price was reasonable.”

“We lost heating just in time for the coldest day of the year with a baby in the house… When I contacted them they were ready to dispatch that night. Fixed by the afternoon. Quoted that morning and no extra charges were added. Honestly cannot thank them enough.”

“As a small business owner, I needed a drainage company that could respond quickly. The team attended first thing in the morning, cleared the blocked drain and carried out a full CCTV survey. All documentation emailed across promptly. Professional, efficient and great value for money.”
