Lift a floor in a Coatbridge house and there is a fair chance you will find pipework going nowhere. Most of these properties had a back boiler behind the fire at some point, and when it came out the visible part went with it while the rest stayed exactly where it was. None of that is dangerous on its own. Some of it is worth knowing about.

About Coatbridge
A great many Coatbridge houses were heated from behind the living room fire for decades, and what got left in the walls and under the floors when that changed is still there.

Usually not, and most of what gets left is simply untidy rather than unsafe. Redundant pipework in a floor and a sealed chimney are cosmetic problems at worst. The one item worth checking is whether the gas supply that fed the old fire was capped properly, because that is behind a wall where nobody can see it and it is not something to take on trust.
